Campus Safety, Security, and Crime Awareness
Nash Community College is committed to maintaining a safe, healthy, positive work and learning environment. Policies, procedures, and statements have been adopted by the college in compliance with federal and state mandates and in a good faith effort to ensure the health and safety of all members of the campus community.
The Nash Community College Board of Trustees in accordance with G.S. § 74A and Title II Public Law 1-542 adopted the following Campus Security and Crime Awareness Policy:
Nash Community College will provide adequate security personnel and procedures to protect the safety of its students, faculty, and staff, and to ensure the security of the College’s assets. It is the responsibility of every college employee and student to report “crimes” as listed below whenever they become aware of such crimes.
In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (referred to as the “Clery Act”), the Campus Safety Committee will ensure that:
- Timely reports are made to the campus community on crimes reported to the Campus Security and Safety Director that are considered to be a threat to the students and employees of the College.
- An annual report on crime statistics is published and distributed as required by the Crime Awareness and Security Act.

Emergency Procedures
The Nash Community College Emergency Procedures are available here. These procedures are to be of assistance at the time of a crisis for faculty, staff, students and visitors of the Nash Community College campus. Familiarize yourself with the basic contents of this plan and keep it readily available for quick reference in a time of emergency. It is the responsibility of all faculty and staff to ensure order is maintained, head counts are taken, and in the event of evacuations proceed to exterior safe zones away from the building.
In the event of a fire or physical threat, students with mobility impairments are to go with or without assistance to the nearest stairwell area. Faculty and staff will assist with evacuation efforts until the local fire or rescue personnel arrive on the scene.
Evacuation maps are located in each Nash Community College classroom, at exit doors and in hallways.

The Hazard Communication Plan may be found here. The OSHA guideline for Hazard Communication is 1910.1200 and is on file in the Safety and Security Office. Questions regarding the college plan or the OSHA standard should be presented to the Safety and Security Director at 252-451-8313.
