Rozell Richardson Pettiford Scholarship Supports Single Parents in Healthcare

The children of Rozell Richardson Pettiford have established the Rozell Richardson Pettiford Scholarship Fund to honor her life and legacy by supporting single parents pursuing a career as a Nurse Aide or Medical Assistant at Nash Community College. This $1,000 scholarship is designed to encourage and assist single parents enrolled in the Nurse Aide or Medical Assistant program.

The scholarship reflects Rozell’s lifelong dedication to caring for others and her resilience in caring for eight children independently. Rozell demonstrated compassion throughout her life, visiting the sick and elderly in her community and working in various roles—including in a nursing home—to provide for her family. After retirement, she continued her commitment to the elderly by ministering to those in nursing homes. Those who knew Rozell often remarked that her presence left people better than she found them.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • The scholarship is open to students enrolled in the Nurse Aid or Medical Assisting program at NCC.
  • Applicants must be single parents.
  • Priority will be given to students demonstrating financial need.
  • Applicants must have a minimum 2.8 grade point average (GPA).
  • Recipients will receive $500 per semester (fall and spring) upon registration.

This scholarship serves as a testament to Rozell’s dedication to improving the lives of others. It aims to empower recipients who want to help others by pursuing rewarding careers in Nursing Aide or Medical Assisting.
