The Next NC Scholarship is a financial aid program that helps most North Carolinians with an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $80,000 or less pursue higher education by fully covering tuition and fees at Nash Community College.

Who is eligible to receive the NEXTNC Scholarship?
To receive the Next NC Scholarship, you must be:
- A North Carolina resident who is eligible for in-state tuition
- A high school graduate (high school equivalency completers are eligible)
- From a household with an annual Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $80,000 or less
- Enrolled in an eligible undergraduate curriculum program for the 2024-2025 academic year
- To receive the full benefit of this scholarship, students should take a full-time course schedule (12 credit hours per semester).
- Meeting the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards of Nash Community College
- IMPORTANT: Student has to have completed the 2024-2025 FAFSA
- Student Aid Index (SAI) at or below 7,500 (once complete, the financial aid office will determine and confirm eligibility.)
How do I apply for the NEXTNC Scholarship?
Applying is SIMPLE!
- Just submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form. It is VERY IMPORTANT – you and your parent/student must fill out the FAFSA. If you’re eligible, you’ll receive the Next NC Scholarship. There are no additional forms to fill out.

Nash Community College’s online courses are equivalent to traditional courses in academic rigor and student requirements. Students should not view an online course as “easier” than traditional courses. Online courses often require more time than conventional face-to-face courses. In addition to self-motivation, good time management skills, and self-discipline, they also require proficiency with computers and technology.

Students who plan to travel abroad should contact eSupport to discuss the possibility of log-in access in locations outside of the contiguous United States as it may or may not be permissible. Connectivity is not guaranteed. Students must contact their instructors to discuss assignment submission details.
Blended (B)
Blended classes combine traditional face-to-face instruction with online instruction where 50% or less of instruction takes place online and required face-to-face classroom sessions are appropriately predetermined by the instructor. Both face-to-face and online components must be integrated, and a required face-to-face meeting will occur within the first 10% point of the course. A schedule of expected on-campus class sessions will be made available by the instructor in Moodle at the beginning of each blended course.
Hybrid (H)
Hybrid classes combine traditional face-to-face instruction with online instruction, where greater than 50% but less than 100% of instruction takes place online and required face-to-face classroom sessions are appropriately predetermined by the instructor. Both face-to-face and online components must be integrated, and a required face-to-face meeting will occur within the first 10% point of the course. A schedule of expected on-campus class sessions will be made available by the instructor in Moodle at the beginning of each hybrid course.
Virtual (V)
Virtual learning allows for course participation from almost any remote site. The expectation of virtual courses, those identified with the letter V in the course title, is that students will attend and participate online during the scheduled course time. NCC’s virtual learning environment is interactive and students are able to communicate with their instructors and other students in real-time during the class. A schedule of expected virtual class sessions will be made available by the instructor in Moodle at the beginning of each virtual course.
Online (OL)
A course in which instruction and materials are presented entirely online using Moodle and other third-party platforms such as MindTap, Connect, MyLabs, etc. Courses may have proctored testing. Completion of a mandatory Enrollment Verification activity is required by every online student within the first 10% point for each online course.

The Student Ambassador Committee will choose six (6) students based on application, two (2) signed letters of recommendation, and an interview. Please note that completing an application will not guarantee an interview. The committee is seeking the following:
- NCC Student with 24 cumulative hours

Although NCC’s VA Office does not work for the Department of Veterans Affairs or the SAA, it is our job to work closely with them to ensure your needs as students are met. VA Certificate of Eligibility Letter
Submit Certificate of Eligibility Letter from the VA. You should get this about 30 days after applying for benefits.
Verifying Enrollment (Chapter 30 and 1606 Recipients only)
All Chapter 30 and 1606 recipients must verify their enrollment each month using the Web Automated Verification of Enrollment (WAVE) or calling 1-877-823-2378.
Registration
The VA will only pay for courses that count towards graduation. Therefore, it is very important to consult with your academic advisor as you are registering for classes.
Tuition and Fees
Effective August 1, 2021, Chapter 30, 31, and 33 recipients are no longer required to enroll at a public institution of higher learning within a three-year period after leaving the service in order to benefit from in-state tuition and fees. The VA will not pay the tuition and fees for any other chapter.
Withdrawing from a Class
Students may accrue a debt with the VA and with Nash Community College if they withdraw or simply stop attending their courses. This can also jeopardize a student’s financial aid eligibility. We highly encourage you to reach out to your instructor first if you are considering withdrawing.
Failing a Class
Students may accrue a debt with the VA if they fail a class. Failing a class will also jeopardize a student’s financial aid eligibility and their academic progress. Once again, please reach out to your instructor if you are encountering difficulties.
Satisfactory Academic Progress
Students are required to meet the college’s satisfactory academic progress requirements in order to continue to be eligible for their VA Benefits. This means maintaining at least a 2.00 GPA.
The VA will not pay for enrollment in the following:
- Courses that do not count towards graduation
- Course audits
- Repeated courses previously passed
- Credit by examination
- Continuing education classes (unless specifically approved by the NC State Approving Agency)
- Dropped or withdrawn classes
- Remedial courses taken online or in a hybrid or blended format (unless taken between March 1, 2020 – December 21, 2021 due to COVID-19)
- Adult High School Diploma (AHSD) / High School Equivalency (HSE) / General Educational Development (GED)
- Career and College Promise (CCP) students
- Non-degree seeking students
