Nash Community College is proud to announce that Robin Latham, the College’s 2024 Outstanding Alumnus of the Year and longtime employee, will serve as the 2025 Commencement Speaker during the graduation ceremony this May.
Latham’s story is deeply intertwined with the mission and heart of NCC. A 1984 graduate, she began her journey on campus as a student and went on to serve in impactful roles over a remarkable 30-year career. Her service included roles in both student and academic affairs—ranging from tutor and faculty member to transfer specialist and Professional Development Coordinator—each marked by a sincere commitment to student success.
“Watching students walk across the stage at graduation always filled me with great joy,” Latham shared. “I was proud and blessed to help them achieve their goals.”
She holds an Associate of Arts in General Education from Nash Technical College (NCC) and Master Instructor in Higher Education Certification. Latham earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Greensboro College in Early Childhood Education, then pursued a Master of Education focused in Adult Education from East Carolina University (ECU). She also earned a certificate in Transnational and Multicultural Literatures from ECU.
“Robin Latham is the embodiment of what it means to ‘Never Leave Nash,’” said Dr. Lew K. Hunnicutt, president of NCC. “Her service has had a generational impact on students, colleagues and the community. It’s only fitting that she returns to the stage not only as an alumna, but as a voice of inspiration for the next class of Nash graduates.”
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Latham has demonstrated extraordinary service to her community, having held roles such as President of the Nash County Democratic Women, Precinct Chair, and advisor to the Phi Theta Kappa Beta Upsilon Delta Chapter. Her leadership has been recognized through numerous awards, including the Horizon Award for Advisors and the J. Edgar and Peggie T. Moore Staff Award.
In a powerful testament to her ongoing legacy and deep-rooted passion for education, Latham and her husband established an endowed scholarship at Nash Community College—an enduring gift that will continue to support students for generations to come. This scholarship is the culmination and true attribution of her unwavering dedication to student success and educational excellence, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she has served, mentored and taught.
“Latham’s work has consistently reflected a deep understanding of the needs of students and a personal commitment to helping them succeed,” said Dr. Levy Brown, vice president of student access and success at NCC. “Her presence at Commencement as our speaker will be a meaningful reminder of the lifelong impact one educator can make.”
Her selection as commencement speaker brings her inspiring journey full circle, as she returns to the stage to send off the Class of 2025 with wisdom, encouragement and pride.
“As a student, Nash gave me an education and confidence,” said Latham. “As a staff member, it gave me a family. Nash is and always will be a tremendous part of my identity. This honor is incredibly special to me.”
