Instruction includes consumable and non-consumable electrode welding and cutting processes. Courses may include math, blueprint reading, metallurgy, welding inspection, and destructive and non-destructive testing providing the student with industry-standard skills developed through classroom training and practical application.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Welding Technology curriculum may be employed as entry-level technicians in the welding and metalworking industries. Career opportunities also exist in construction, manufacturing, fabrication, sales, quality control, supervision, and welding-related self-employment.

Overview

The Nuclear Medicine Technology curriculum provides the clinical and didactic experience necessary to prepare students to qualify as entry-level nuclear medicine technologists.

What You'll Learn

Students will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to properly perform clinical procedures. These skills include patient care, use of radioactive materials, operation of imaging and counting instrumentation, and laboratory procedures.

Career Opportunities

Graduates may be eligible to apply for certification/registration examinations given by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board and the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

Overview

The Emergency Management curriculum is designed to provide students with a foundation of technical and professional knowledge needed for emergency services delivery in local and state government agencies. Study involves both management and technical aspects of law enforcement, fire protection, emergency medical services, and emergency planning.

What You'll Learn

This two-year degree program is designed for a student to work full-time in the public services field and attend school full-time on off-duty days. Classes are 8 weeks allowing students to move through more quickly.

Coursework includes classroom and laboratory exercises to introduce the student to various aspects of emergency preparedness, protection, and enforcement. Students will learn technical and administrative skills such as investigative principles, hazardous materials, codes, standards, emergency agency operations, and finance.

Career Opportunities

Employment opportunities include ambulance services, fire/rescue agencies, law enforcement agencies, fire marshal offices, industrial firms, educational institutions, emergency management offices, and other government agencies. Employed persons should have opportunities for skilled and supervisory-level positions.

All EPT- and FIP-prefixed courses must be passed with a grade of “C” or better in order for the student to progress to a subsequent course and fulfill graduation requirements.

Overview

The Emergency Medical Science curriculum provides individuals with the knowledge, skills, and attributes to provide advanced emergency medical care as paramedics for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system and prepares graduates to enter the workforce.

Students will gain complex knowledge, competency, and experience while employing evidence-based practice under medical oversight, and they will learn to serve as a link from the scene into the healthcare system.

Career Opportunities

The Fire Protection Technology curriculum is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills in the technical, managerial, and leadership areas necessary for advancement within the fire protection community and related firefighting industries, and to provide currently employed firefighters with knowledge and skills often required for promotion consideration.

Coursework includes diverse fire protection subject areas, including fire prevention and safety, public education, building construction, fire ground strategies and tactics, and local government finance and laws, as they apply to emergency services management. Emphasis includes understanding fire characteristics and the structural consequences of fire; risk assessment and management; and relevant research, communications, and leadership methodologies.

Career Opportunities

Graduates should qualify for employment or supervisory-level positions in the fire protection field with municipal or volunteer fire departments, government agencies, industrial firms, private corporations, insurance rating organizations, safety organizations, and educational organizations.

Career Opportunities

Graduates may find employment in healthcare settings including hospitals, medical offices, clinics, long-term care facilities, and insurance companies. Graduates are eligible to sit for various certification exams upon completion of the degree with a combination of a minimum of two years administrative experience. Eligible certifications include, but are not limited to, the Professional Association of Health Care Office Managers (PAHCOM), the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), the Certified Patient Account Manager (CPAM) and the Certified Manager of Patient Accounts (CMPA) examinations.

Graduates should qualify for management or entry-level supervisory positions in food and lodging operations, including restaurants, foodservice, beverage service, catering, front office, reservations and housekeeping. The Social and Human Services curriculum prepares students for entry-level positions in institutions and agencies that provide social, community, and educational services. Along with core courses, students take courses that prepare them for specialization in specific human service areas.

What You'll Learn

Students will take courses from a variety of disciplines. Emphasis in core courses is placed on development of relevant knowledge, skills, and attitudes in human services. Fieldwork experience will provide opportunities for application of knowledge and skills learned in the classroom.

Career Opportunities

Graduates should qualify for positions in mental health, child care, family services, social services, rehabilitation, correction, and educational agencies. Graduates choosing to continue their education may select from a variety of transfer programs at senior public and private institutions.

Work Based Learning

Work-Based Learning (WBL) is required for all students enrolled in a Social and Human Services degree program. WBL provides a work-based learning experience with a college-approved employer in an area related to the student’s program of study. The Social and Human Services: Addiction and Recovery Studies concentration prepares students to assist in drug and alcohol counseling, prevention-oriented educational activities, rehabilitation with recovering clients, management community-based programs, counseling in residential facilities, and pursuit of four-year degrees.

What You'll Learn

Coursework includes classroom and experiential activities oriented toward an overview of chemical dependency, psychological/sociological process, the 12 Core Functions, intervention techniques with individuals in groups, and follow-up activities with recovering clients.

Career Opportunities

Graduates should qualify for positions as substance abuse counselors, DUI counselors, halfway house workers, residential facility employees, and substance education specialists. With educational and clinical experiences, graduates can obtain certification by the North Carolina Substance Abuse Board.

Work Based Learning

Work-Based Learning (WBL) is required for all students enrolled in a Social and Human Services degree program.
