Nash Community College is proud to announce the reappointment of three distinguished members to its Board of Trustees. J. Wayne Outlaw, Natalie Brooks and Amy Pearson have been reappointed by their respective appointing authorities to continue their service to the College and community.
Outlaw, reappointed by the Nash County Commissioners, has served on the Board since 2013. A retired Manufacturing Manager from Abbott Laboratories with more than 31 years of service, Outlaw currently serves as Chair of the Nash County Board of Commissioners. His long record of civic involvement includes leadership roles in numerous community organizations, ranging from the Nash County Broadband Advisory Committee to the Research Triangle Regional Partnership Executive Committee. An Air Force veteran and ordained deacon at Englewood Baptist Church, Outlaw continues to bring both professional expertise and a strong commitment to public service to the College’s leadership.
Brooks, reappointed by the North Carolina House of Representatives, is a dedicated educator with a lifetime career in education spanning more than three decades. She has served as a kindergarten, elementary, and exceptional children’s teacher, mentor teacher, instructional coach, and adult basic education instructor at NCC. Brooks holds a Master’s degree in Elementary Education with additional licensure in Gifted Education from East Carolina University. She is active in professional and community service, including leadership roles within the Rocky Mount Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and on the SECU Advisory Board.
Pearson, reappointed by the North Carolina Senate, brings a unique blend of operational expertise, community commitment and firsthand experience with the state’s community college system to her trustee role. She is also a proud alumna of the North Carolina Community College System whose appointment reflects the College’s ongoing commitment to servant leadership and regional engagement.
Pearson currently serves as the President of Rudy’s Truck & Trailer, Inc., a family-owned business based in Bailey, N.C., that has proudly served the region since it opened in 1987. Under her leadership, the business has grown to become a trusted provider of heavy-duty truck and trailer repair services. Her entrepreneurial journey also includes ventures in autobody repair, business computer programming, restaurant food service, rural waste management, and real estate rentals. A graduate of Southern Nash High School and Wilson Community College, where she earned an Associates in Business Computer Programming, Pearson is deeply connected to the mission and impact of community colleges.

Hunnicutt, president of NCC. “Their continued leadership will help guide the College as we continue to expand opportunities for students and strengthen our impact across Nash County and the region.” The NCC Board of Trustees is comprised of members appointed by the Governor of North Carolina, the North Carolina House and Senate, and the Nash County Commissioners. Together, the Trustees provide strategic leadership and oversight to ensure the College fulfills its mission of advancing student success and supporting workforce development in the community.
