The Small Business Center at Nash Community College is excited to announce that it has been awarded the prestigious NC IDEA MINDSET grant, which will provide critical funding for entrepreneurial education and support in the Rocky Mount area. This grant will enable the Center to implement the nationally recognized Ice House Entrepreneurship Program, designed to instill an entrepreneurial mindset in aspiring business owners.

Under the leadership of Ruthie Holloman, NCC’s Director of the Small Business Center, this initiative will serve as a catalyst for individuals looking to launch or grow their businesses. Holloman, who earned her Silver Ice House Facilitator Certification in February 2024, has been instrumental in bringing this program to the community, ensuring entrepreneurs receive the tools and guidance necessary for success.
“The NC IDEA MINDSET grant is an incredible opportunity for our community,” said Ruthie Holloman, director of the small business center at NCC. “Through this grant, we can provide entrepreneurs with the practical skills and mindset they need to thrive. Whether you’re starting a new business or taking your existing business to the next level, the Ice House program will help you think strategically and with confidence.”
The NC IDEA MINDSET grant will support two key initiatives: the “Power of H.E.R.” (Helping Entrepreneurs Rise) kickoff event on March 1st, and the subsequent 8-week Launch Rocky Mount cohort. The Power of H.E.R. is an annual event to empower and celebrate women entrepreneurs during Women’s History Month. Attendees will gain valuable insights, resources, and networking opportunities.
Following this, the Launch Rocky Mount cohort, beginning March 5th, will guide participants through the Ice House curriculum, equipping them with the entrepreneurial skills and mindset needed to navigate the challenges of business ownership successfully. The initiative will culminate in a pitch competition where three entrepreneurs will receive funding to help their businesses thrive.
“The center’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship aligns perfectly with NC IDEA’s mission to promote economic growth through entrepreneurial education,” said Holloman. “This grant represents a significant step forward in supporting local business development and creating a thriving ecosystem for entrepreneurs in Rocky Mount.”
